bre's apt makeover

My good friend Bre allowed me to come in and help her with her and her roommate Molly's apt. The place had a good template of hardwood floors, good light, built in cabinets, and cute wall trim in the dining room. We started by rearranging the furniture to make a cohesive and fluid flow. We didn't get pics before the rearranging, but I will explain a few ideas. We switched the tv with the big green cabinet. The tv was the first thing you saw when entering so I suggested we switch it with the cabinet so that was the focus when you walk in. We created a little nook next to that with the chair, side table, and chandelier. We covered the chair with a tapestry from Urban Outfitters and Bre found a cute chandelier. I "merchandised" the built in cabinet with all sorts of stuff they had around the house.

after

What else...we shopped for a rug, a coffee table, and just a few odds and ends. The first rug you will see in the before was a grey carpet from ikea. bre decided she didn't like it and i am glad she did. she found the orange rug and i think it looks great! the coffee table was found at the rose bowl a long with a few other randoms. she also found the bench.

the wall collage was done with mixing random photos and art pieces bre already had. we found the square wall boxes at big lots and then mapped everything out on the floor before hanging it up. added a cactus, etc.

paint colors...went to home depot and picked out the grey. bre did the painting herself. she also picked out the color for the kitchen....per my help over texting.
i suggested moving the red/pink dresser to the dining room to act as a "buffet". the table was up against the wall at first but also suggested moving it to the middle of the room to make it really feel like a dining room. the candle holder was once black, but painted it white...found the white glassware at st vincent de paul.

the kitchen was pretty basic and bre did most of the work on that one.

bedroom didn't require much except rearranging. i also suggested the painting hanging up. it gives a big statement. i switched the desk and bookshelf as well to make it more appealing when you enter.

thanks to bre and molly for letting me invade. bre was awesome and did a lot of work herself per my suggestion. she was eager to get things done and totally open to suggestion. i think it turned out really cute!

the "motel" apt

My new apartment located in Silverlake...somewhere near Echo Park resembles a 1960's California motel. The exterior photos I took at dusk, so they are a little dark. I choose to not paint the walls for simplicity and laziness.(I hope to not stay in this place for long, another reason to not paint). I stayed at a motel outside Palm Springs once that had concrete floors and I immediate fell in love. Needless to say, if this place did not have the concrete floors it would not have been much of a sell for me. It distinguishes itself amongst the rest. (I do however, miss hardwood floors sometimes) I think the white walls also work well with the floor, another reason to not paint. I did purchase some new vintage items (and maybe a few ikea pieces) placed randomly throughout, etc, etc. Painted a few pieces...and there you have it.
